Lorenz came to the U.S. from Germany as steerage passenger #454 on the immigration ship SS Koln. It departed from Bremen, Germany and arrived at customs in New York on Jun 17, 1873. He listed his occupation as a farmer, 29 years old (see line 454 of attached URL link).
He eventually settled in N. Braddock, Pa. where Andrew Carnegie had recently begun building the first U.S. steel mill in January 1873, the Edgar Thompson Steel works, in the historic area of Braddock's Field. Population grew from 1K in 1870, to 21K in 1920.

Mr. Nebel was born in Bavaria, Germany, in February,1844. He came to America with his wife about 3S years ago. settling in old Allegheny, where they lived for several years, when they moved to Braddock.
Mr. Nebel had held various positions in the steel plant. He was a mold-setter for a number of years. He had been ill for two years from liver trouble, and suffered a stroke of paralysis about six months ago.
He was a member of St. Joseph's German Catholic Church, Braddock. and of St. Joseph's Lodge, Knights of St. George. His wife died some years ago.
He leaves three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Phoebe Strang of North Braddock, Mrs. Ann Broarman of Newark NJ, and Miss Agnes Nebel. at home, and John, William and Charles Nebel, all of North Braddock.
There are also two brothers John and Adam Nebel, both of the North Side.
