... daughter of Thomas de Holand, K.G., 2nd Earl of Kent, by Alice, daughter of Richard de Arundel, Knt., Earl of Arundel and Surrey. She was born about 1385-6 (aged 22 in 1408, 26 in 1411, 30 in 1416).
Margaret was co-heiress in 1408 to her brother, Edmund Holand, K.G., 4th Earl of Kent, by which she inherited the manors of Wakes Colne, Essex, Kingsbury Regis (in Milborne Port) and Queen Camel, Somerset.
His widow, Margaret, married (2nd) by papal mandate dated 16 Aug 1410 (dispensation dated 10 Nov 1412, they being related in the 2nd degree of affinity and 2nd and 3rd degrees of kindred) Thomas of Lancaster. They had no issue.
In 1426 his widow, Margaret, presented to the church of Horsington, Somerset, by reason of the wardship of Thomas son and heir of Maurice Russell, Knt., granted to her by the king. In 1428 she presented to the church of Earnshill, Somerset. In 1433 she was granted an exemption from custom for 12 casks of salt Salmon sent by her daughter, Joan Beaufort, Queen of Scotland.
She died testate in the Monastery of St. Saviour's, Bermondsey, Surrey 29 (or 30) Dec 1439 (or 8 Jan 1439/40), and was buried in St. Michael's Chapel in Canterbury Cathedral, Kent. Immediately after her death, the Prior of Christ Church, Canterbury received a royal mandate to exhume the bodies of her two former husbands and to re-inter them beside that of the Duchess.

MARGARET de Holand, widow of JOHN Beaufort Marquess of Somerset, daughter of THOMAS de Holand Earl of Kent & his wife Alice FitzAlan ([1381/85]-St Saviour’s Abbey, Bermondsey 30 Dec 1439, bur Augustine Monastery of St Saviour, London). A manuscript pedigree dated to [1500] names "Margaret Countess of Somerset" as daughter of "Thomas Holand Earl of Kent". The will of "John Beaufort late Earl of Somerset, Chamberlain of England and Captain of Calais", dated 16 Mar 1409, proved 5 Apr 1410, bequeathed property to “Henry his brother...Bishop of Winchester” and appointed him and “Margaret his wife” as his executors. The will of "Thomas son of the King Duke of Clarence, Earl of Albemarle and Steward of England", dated 10 Jul 1417, proved 23 Nov 1423, chose burial “in Christ Church Canterbury at the feet of my...father”, bequeathed property to “Margaret my...consort...my...son Henry Earl of Somerset”. This document also confirms Margaret’s parentage as “my...son Henry Earl of Somerset” was the testator’s stepson, his wife’s son by her first marriage.

Margaret Holland, Countess of Somerset (1385 - 31 December 1439) was the daughter of Thomas Holland, 2nd Earl of Kent, who was the son of Joan "the Fair Maid of Kent" (granddaughter of Edward I of England, wife of Edward the Black Prince and mother of Richard II of England). Margaret's mother was Alice FitzAlan, daughter of Richard FitzAlan, 10th Earl of Arundel and Eleanor of Lancaster.
Margaret married John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset, son of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster' and his mistress Katherine Swynford. They had six children:
Henry Beaufort, 2nd Earl of Somerset (c. 1401-25 November 1418).
John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset (baptized 25 March 1404-27 May 1444).
Thomas Beaufort, Count of Perche (c. 1405-1431).
Lady Joan Beaufort (c. 1406-15 July 1445), who married James I of Scotland and Sir
James Stewart, the Black Knight of Lorn.
Edmund Beaufort, 2nd Duke of Somerset (c. 1406-22 May 1455).
Lady Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Devon (c. 1409-1449), married Thomas de
Courtenay, 13th Earl of Devon.
In 1399, she was invested as a Lady Companion, Order of the Garter (L.G.). After Beaufort died in 1410 (in the Tower of London), she married his nephew Thomas of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Clarence, the son of King Henry IV. They had no children. She died on 31 December 1439 at St. Saviour's Abbey, Bermondsey, in London, England. Margaret and both her husbands are buried together in a carved alabaster tomb in Canterbury Cathedral that shows her lying between the two of them.
Through her son, the 1st Duke of Somerset, Lady Margaret is an ancestress to the Tudor monarchs. Both Lady Joan, Queen consort of Scotland, and the Duke of Somerset, are ancestors of King George I of Great Britain. As such, both children are ancestors to the current British royal family.
